AI is a Tool, not a Solution

Artificial Intelligence (AI)  is everywhere. It’s writing your shopping list for dinner, it’s writing your email reply, it’s writing your term paper and your syllabus. As AI gains in popularity, it’s important to know how to use the tool effectively. Recently, I worked with a client who hired me to review their upcoming presentation and provide my expertise as to how the presentation could be more succinct and persuasive. As a busy executive, they didn’t have the bandwidth to construct a presentation from scratch. So, they entered the relevant information into ChatGPT. The output was sleek and gorgeous. After they finished presenting to me, my first comment was,

“Your client’s name is spelled incorrectly on the title page.”

In their haste, it was a mistake that they did not catch. Furthermore, my client is headquartered outside of the U.S. and they were making a presentation to a U.S. based audience. Therefore, there were stylistic and language occurrences in the presentation that were not properly translated via ChatGPT. We spent the next two hours modifying the ChatGPT content in a way that told a compelling story, allowed my client to connect with the emotions of the audience, used language that was familiar to the audience, and made a persuasive ask at the conclusion.

As technology continues to evolve, it is important to understand how the tool can be used in your business structure. Remember when Michael Scott followed the GPS directions and drove into a lake, while his co-pilot, Dwight, tried to steer him away from the danger?
