¡Soy Una Oradora Internacional!
Last month, I participated in my first international speaking engagement. I was invited by Sistas in Panamá to be the keynote speaker for their 4th annual women’s retreat in Panamá City, Panamá. The theme, ‘I Am My Sista’s Keeper’ focused on deepening friendships and relationships among Black women. As the opening speaker, I set the intention for the week, inviting the women to think about how they exemplify trust and vulnerability, not only as they show up for women, but how they want other women to display those characteristics as they show up for them. By the end of our time together, the group was able to adopt new ways to look at female friendships as they engaged in activities and soaked up the culture and beauty of Panamá for the next six days.

As a speaker, I felt the love and support of other Black women as I embarked upon my first international speaking engagement. This was an event where I was able to create a safe space for the women in the room, and the group demonstrated the theme of the event in real time – by being this sista’s keeper!
