How Will You Celebrate Blak History Month 2025?
The new administration in the United States has announced that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts will be halted. While the new guidance about DEI is specific to the feds, several non-federal entities are preemptively removing DEI initiatives. Target has canceled their DEI initiatives, Costco has not. If you’ve worked with me in the past, you should not be surprised by this change in direction. I tell my clients that changing established practices is not easy. Challenging the status quo requires fortitude, strength, and fearlessness. February is Black History Month in the United States. This month celebrates the accomplishments of Black folks in the country despite discrimination, lynching, humiliation, and subjugation. The accomplishments we celebrate during Black History Month are made possible first by the tenacity of Black folks and secondarily by the allyship of non-Black folks.
My question for you, reader, is how do you plan to celebrate Black History Month 2025? Will you double down on your commitment to actively support, recognize, and champion a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce? Or will you revert back to the familiarity of the status quo and dismantle the systems you have put in place to address these inequities? If you are one of my former clients, I am confident that you will not only stay the course, but also reinforce your efforts and demonstrate to your workforce your commitment, even when those around you are succumbing to external pressures. And, if we have not had the opportunity to work together, I invite you to reach out so that we can discuss how McCord Consulting Group can help your team create an environment where all team members are unequivocally supported, valued, and celebrated. Happy Black History Month, Estados Unidos! Let’s get to work!
