Hitting a Home Run in Foreign Business Expansion
Last month, I got to meet some of the foreign companies who visited Denver with the Denver Global Landing Pad to learn about ways in which they could expand their businesses to the area. What I heard over and over again was that people in Denver were not only willing to have conversations with these businesses, but went the extra step to make connections with individuals who could help further their business goals. I connected with this sentiment as I felt the same way when I started McCord Consulting Group ten years ago. Of course, my tenacity and stick-to-it-ness were huge factors in my success, but I wouldn’t have gotten this far if it wasn’t for others taking a chance on me, believing in me, and making a meaningful introduction.
I especially enjoyed connecting with these business owners because I am in the same position as they are – only in Panamá! I too am making new business connections, introducing myself to new audiences, and learning about the nuances of the Panamanian business culture. That’s why, when I consult with foreign companies on how to make presentations to U.S. audiences, I am speaking not only as an expert, but as someone who has experience understanding and expanding her own business in an unfamiliar foreign business environment. I’m continuing to cheer on these companies as they hit a ‘home run’ in their business expansion into the United States!
